SUMMARY:Material 2 Plastic Sustainability Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We are honoured and excited to be able to offer students in Y9-12\, the opportunity to attend and experience a hands-on workshop on-campus\, by Up-Fuse who are a social and environmental brand here in New Cairo.\nUp-Fuse make fashionable items out of materials which would otherwise harm the environment. All of their products are made by women of lower-income.\nHere\, at Manchester International School we strive to provide our students will relevant key skills and work experiences\, in preparation for their future beyond our school. This workshop has been selected as a fitting community serving initiative\, which also reflects our plastic-clever & eco-friendly values\, whilst being importantly aligned with our academics. \nThis workshop will revolve around our eco-friendly and sustainable goals\, whilst combining STEAM (subjects of science\, technology\, engineering\, arts and math). Our students will learn and experience hands-on skills\, and witness sustainable solutions for modern-day problems\, which are important skills to nurture for their future studies\, careers\, and also in the real world.

SUMMARY:Y9-12 : Guest Speaker - Laila Elmasry - Up-Fuse
DESCRIPTION:Yesterday we hosted guest speaker Ms. Laila Elmasry of Up-Fuse as part of our ongoing collaboration and shared eco-friendly goals (you may have seen her guest-starring in our video which won the British Council Egypt Your World Film Competition). Up-Fuse is a socio and enviro-conscious brand\, whose mission is to create sustainable fashion that supports local communities. \n\n\n\nOur students in Y9-12 attended Ms. Laila’s informative presentation on sustainability – where she explained what sustainability is\, its importance and small changes we can make to our lives such as trying to wait until 1% before recharging our phones\, turning off lights\, and using less water when cleaning our teeth. We can also try not to use single-use plastic such as bottles\, bags and cutlery. \n\n\n\nThe conception and work of Up-Fuse was born out of recycling such single use-plastics\, into fashionable products created by women in areas such as Garbage City and Manshyet Nasser District\, which has allowed them to earn more than 60% of what they would usually earn. Up-Fuse and their cause are also supported by many well-known Egyptian celebrities. \n\n\n\nMs. Laila also shared her personal journey to achieving her role from high school\, through to university\, internships\, getting noticed and how that evolved from her personal passion for sustainability.\n\n\n\nA competition was held with multiple prizes of Up-Fuse creations and a promo code was given for future purchases which we have shared in our images.\n\n\n\nWe are very excited about our forthcoming ground-breaking projects with Up-Fuse\, so stay tuned!

DESCRIPTION:As a school\, it is our aim to create model citizens who will uplift others in their stride and assist them so that they create a world where there is less suffering. \nWith this at the forefront of our minds\, we have begun our clothing drive this year with the additional option to donate blankets\, as well as clothes for all ages and both genders. \nNow maybe you have some items you have grown out of\, no longer wear or need\, these things can provide an amazing gift of not only warmth but provide dignity and help to improve lives. You can also send blankets\, either used (as long as they are clean) or even new. \nMr Brandon gave a heartfelt speech to our students during the morning line\, to explain how the donating of items is not only a great charitable initiative but it is also a form of recycling by allowing items to be reused through donating to this wonderful cause. \nLetters have been sent home via email with full details of how you can help. \nFinally\, we would like to thank all members of the MIS family for their charitable actions & donations to this cause and for their empathy & kindness to others.
