Cambridge Primary - CAIE

Cambridge Primary is an education programme for young students that combines a world-class curriculum, high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment. At MIS we incorporate Cambridge Primary Curriculum for mathematics, science and English alongside the British Curriculum for students in Years 1-6.

English

Cambridge Primary English enables students to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the critical skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment. Students will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in any culture and to promote cross-cultural understanding.

The Cambridge Primary English curriculum framework explores the following five content areas:

Mathematics

Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

The Cambridge Primary Mathematics curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.

The curriculum framework explores the following five content areas:

    • Shapes and geometric reasoning

    • Money (until stage 3)

    • Using techniques and skills in solving mathematical problems
    • Using understanding and strategies in solving problems (from stage 4)

Science
Science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all students are taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, students are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. We encourage them to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes
